THE STANDELLS vs THE VENTURES

Covers, Covers & more Covers!
Here are all-covers slabs by two of my favorite 60’s groups, not considered as their best albums but nonetheless fun and interesting.
This time not in the surf mood, The Ventures take on the hits of Rolling Stones, Creedence, Elvis, Hank Williams… into Swamp instro area.
The Standells molested your fav 60’s tunes by The Troggs, Donovan, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Lovin’ Spoonful and even their label-mates The Chocolate Watch Band. Time stood still, dig!
Hot!                                  Swamp!

THE STANDELLS – The Best Of

.

”Yeah, down by the river
Down by the banks of the river Charles
Aw, that’s what’s happenin’ baby
That’s where you’ll find me
Along with lovers, buggers and thieves”

This fine compilation came in ’86 and was a reissue of ’83 Rhino Rec. ”Best Of” Lp but with different cover art [later in ’89 it was issued as 18 trax CD but with somehow inferior sound]. It’s a real cool overview on one of the TOP TEN U.S. 60’s garage punkers.
With legendary proto-punk stuff like Dirty Water, Riot On Sunset Strip, Mr. Nobody, Mainline, Try It, Medication, Barracuda, Why Pick On Me, All Fall Down… they manage to beat the Stones at their own game.
”Frustrated Women Need To Be In By 12:00”
Ingeniously produced by Ed Cobb who wrote some of their best tunes [later on created a sound for another cult garage crew The Chocolate Watchband], The Standells went straight to the top of Garage Rock Pantheon.
This here is 360>Surfadelic Vinyl Rip! powerful audio assault for the best garage/punk experience. It’s causing A RIOT!

”I’m going down to the strip tonight
I’m not on a stay home trip tonight
Long hair seems to be the main attraction
But the heat is causin’ all the action”
